Everyone likes to do some modifications on their motorcycle! Customizing is part of the fun. But will these cool modifications make the value of your bike go up?
Generally mods don’t make the value of the bike go up at all and sometimes they actually can make it less desirable. I think modifications can definitely draw buyers eyes, but it really depends on what the mods are and how they are installed.
Generally, mods like exhausts, frame sliders/cages and luggage racks will help get you the most bang for your buck in terms of more return on your motorcycle. Three things I’ve generally found that do not help much are apehangers, levers, and super custom paint jobs. Sometimes you’ll get lucky and the modifications you do are EXACTLY what someone else wants to have on their bike, but trends are moving away from this. Most buyers actually want to customize their bike to their own taste.
Be careful when installing anything that is or can be perceived as cheap. Electrical components are the most important to get right! Do not cheap out on anything electrical. Looking at you EBAY/CHINA!! The quality of the installation will definitely be a factor as well. I also see a ton of janky wiring on lighting installs on motorcycles (sometimes from other shops too unfortunately). If you are unsure if you have the correct tools, time and space do not attempt accessory installs on your own. You can bet that any modification you install that doesn’t look professional will hurt your sale. Also be aware that any modifications you make may not be legal in all states or could be a cause to fail a state inspection.
